You do not need any specific degree or other certification to become a Whole30 Envoy. However, we do require that you have completed at least 2 rounds of Whole30 yourself, including reintroduction.

As noted above, we also highly recommend you have read It Starts With Food, The Whole30, and Food Freedom Forever, as well as this free, comprehensive Track 1 Study Guide to support your study process.

In addition, you must be familiar with Whole30’s community statement and commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and commit to joining us in learning, sharing, and acting in such a way as to uphold these commitments.

We accept applications during a limited number of time windows each year. This gives you time to complete your testing process and get “onboarded” with us before the September and January group rounds of Whole30, which tend to offer the most media opportunities. Applications will open next in Spring 2023.

When it’s time to apply, your application will be reviewed at Whole30 HQ and, if you are accepted, you’ll be invited to pay the certification fee of $199 and begin Track 1 of the testing process shortly.

The Whole30 Envoy Certification carries an initial fee of $199, due within 3 days after being accepted into the program and before beginning the Track 1 test.

There is also the same $199 annual fee to maintain your certification. The Continuing Education Units (CEUs) required to maintain your certification are provided free of charge. (See “CEUs” section below.)

As you know from reading our Whole30 DEI Community Statement and Goals, our Coaching and Envoy certification programs are committed to pursuing and empowering coaches and clients of all races, socioeconomic status, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, family responsibility or family status, marital status, religious or political convictions, pregnancy status, ages, body sizes and/or shapes, and abilities.
We offer discounts and scholarship opportunities specifically designed to reflect our active commitment to welcome more Envoys who are Black, Indigenous, or people of color (BIPOC) and/or lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBTQIA+), or are otherwise part of a historically excluded community. We believe Whole30 is for everyone, and we want our community members to see themselves reflected in you.

We know that a testing process can seem nerve-wracking. Track 1 is the most challenging part of the certification process. Each track of the testing process is open for 1 week, and you can repeat it as many times as needed within that week. If you happen to fail either of the 2 tracks, you have 2 options: (1) you can wait and test during the next application window, or (2) you can request a refund, minus a 25% administrative fee. However, we encourage you to try again!

If you do request a refund, you will need to wait 6 months before applying to become an Envoy again for time to study and reconnect with the community.

No. The Whole30 team reserves the right to excuse you from the process at any time, for any reason. If this should happen, we’ll issue you a full refund.

We encourage you to come to the Track 1 test prepared, having read co-founder Melissa Urban’s books, as well as our Whole30 blogs and resources. We have provided this free, comprehensive Track 1 Study Guide to support your study process.

Once your application is accepted, you’ll begin a time-specific testing process. It’s almost like a school course! Applicants in your cohort will take each of the 2 Tracks at the same time, starting with Track 1. So the Track 1 test will be open for 1 week, and you’ll be able to repeat it as many times as you need to during that period. At the end of the week, if you pass, Track 2 will open. Then you’ll have 1 week to complete Track 2. 

The entire application and testing process takes approximately 6 weeks.

The Whole30 Envoy Certification Program includes 2 Tracks, each of which is designed to test your Whole30 knowledge, showcase your communication skills, demonstrate your understanding of our community, and show us how you would contribute to our mission. 

Track 1 is a 40-question multiple-choice exam.  In Track 2, we ask you to answer 15 short essay questions about Whole30.

Testing is all done through our online system, from the comfort of your own home. A reliable internet connection is required.

Yes. Scores will be calculated and displayed for each Track in your Dashboard. You and your Whole30 team reviewer will be the only people with access to your testing materials and scores once you log into our system.

It means you have been officially licensed to use the Whole30 Certified Envoy registered trademark to advertise, promote, and market your free Whole30 offerings and your affiliation with us.

The only designation afforded by this program is Whole30 Certified Envoy. Unless your other certifications, licenses, or degrees specifically allow it, you may not call yourself a nutritionist, nutrition consultant, or dietitian, or any other term that implies you are licensed to perform nutrition consultations.

No. Only Whole30 Certified Coaches are eligible to guide clients in individual or group environments, in person or virtually. If you are interested in building a business around helping Whole30 clients to change their lives, please apply to our Whole30 Coaching program here.

Yes, but you may not offer any nutritional advice or guidance that could be construed as Coaching. You may present the Whole30 Rules as they appear on our website, and you may discuss your own recipes or content.  You may accept payment for these events – but again, you must ensure that any content you present falls within your Envoy scope of practice and does not offer Coaching support, guidance, or advice.

No, but you’ll want to! If you shoot video, take photos, or create presentations for your events, send them to us at coaches@nullwhole30.com. We regularly feature our Coaches and Envoys (and their events) on the Whole30 social media channels. Unless you let us know what you’re up to, we won’t be able to showcase your talents!

Yes, as long as you make it clear that you are speaking only as a Whole30 Certified Envoy, and not on behalf of the Whole30 organization itself. You may not offer any nutritional advice or guidance that is outside your scope of qualification, but you may discuss Whole30 in general and your own recipes or content. Feel free to accept requests from local media (television, newspaper, radio, podcasts, or local blogs or locally-based online channels) to talk about the Whole30 and your coaching services—but remember, you must present the program exactly as written, without modifications.

Not without express written permission first. Any national or web-based media outlets requesting interviews (television, newspaper, radio, podcasts, or online sources with a broad audience) must be passed through headquarters@nullwhole30.com first. Should we be unavailable to take the request, we’ll happily hand it back to you.

This list is not exhaustive, but as an Envoy, you may not, without prior written permission from Whole30: (a) offer any services, free or paid, that could be construed as actively Coaching clients through the Whole30 program, (b) appear on any media or conduct any media interviews on behalf of Whole30, outside of those locally distributed, (c) perform any services for which you are not licensed, or services which are not allowed by your state legislation.

Your Envoy license is good for one calendar year, beginning on the day you sign and accept your contract. The license may be renewed each year for a fee of $199, provided you meet the requirements for renewal.

First, you must comply with all contractual obligations as outlined in your Envoy Contract. Second, you must complete annual Continuing Education Units (CEUs), many of which we offer free of charge right from your Coach Dashboard. Third, you must pay a $199 annual fee to remain a Whole30 Certified Coach in good standing.

You earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs) by providing service to the Whole30 community or by engaging in additional education. CEUs can be earned by volunteering as a forum moderator, performing a seminar or event at Whole30’s request, creating resources for our website, helping the Whole30 team with a special project, or taking an approved course or training seminar. A detailed list of CEU options will be offered in our online system once you have achieved your certification, and the vast majority are available free of charge.
